Public Lecture on “China’s​ Grand Views on Regional and Global Order” by Prof. Yang Jiemian

CCRS will organize a public lecture “China’s Grand Views on Regional and Global Order” by Distinguished Speaker, Prof. Yang Jiemian, Senior Research Fellow and Chairman of Academic Affairs Council, Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, which will be held on 12 February 2025, from 3 to 5pm at Sen Monorom Hall, Third Floor, Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia (Toul Kork Campus). This event is supported by Faculty of Social Sciences and International Relations, Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia.

In this engaging lecture, Professor Yang will present a comprehensive analysis of China’s evolving worldview and its strategic approach to shaping the future of global and regional order. The talk is divided into four key sections; namely (1) historical overview of China’s worldviews from ancient time to the present; (2) China’s current perspective on both regional and global order; (3) China’s future-oriented approaches to global governance and regional architectures; and (4) the State of Asia-Pacific regional order.

This lecture offers a timely and thought-provoking exploration of China’s strategic vision and its implications for global governance. Join us for a deep dive into China’s grand vision for the future of regional and global order.

Prof. Jiemian YANG was the President of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) (2007-2013) and now is the Chairman of the SIIS Academic Advisory Council. Concurrently, Prof. Yang is Member of the Foreign Policy Advisory Group of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China,

Member of Evaluation Group of Chinese Social Science Foundation, Member of Social Science Project Evaluation Group of the Ministry of Education of China; Member of the Council of Eminent Persons of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia; Chairmen of the International Advisory Board of Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum, Member of the Board of Directors of the Shanghai Museum; Member of China-Russia Committee of Friendship, Peace and Development; Director of the Board of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs. Academic advisor or guest professor at Peking University, Nanjing University, Fudan University and the like. His honors include National Honor of China World Expo in 2010, National Special Expert Awards, Shanghai Outstanding Talent Award and several Shanghai Awards in Social Sciences. Prof. Yang has (co-)authored about two dozen of books and many papers well over two million words on international relations and China foreign policies.

Ambassador Pou Sothirak is a retired academic currently serving as the Distinguished Senior Advisor to the Cambodian Center for Regional Studies (CCRS). He was the Executive Director of the Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace from May 2013 to August 2023. He was appointed as Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia from September 2013 to January 2014. He was a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of the Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) in Singapore from January 2009 to December 2012. He also served as Cambodian Ambassador to Japan from April 2005 to November 2008. He was elected Cambodian Member of Parliaments twice during the national general election in 1993 and 2003. He was appointed as Minister of Industry Mines and Energy of the Royal Government of Cambodia from 1993 to 1998. He has written extensively on various issues concerning the development of Cambodia and the region.
