Him Rotha, Deputy Director, CCRS was quoted in an article by the South China Morning Post on “Why US is splurging US$45 million on Thai-Cambodian border war amid cuts in aid funding,” published today.

“Him Rotha, deputy director at the Cambodian Centre for Regional Studies, said the US wanted to emphasise its leading role in securing the ceasefire between Bangkok and Phnom Penh while tackling several issues at once.

Washington’s pledge was “more sophisticated” than the help provided by other countries, including China, as it sought to address issues beyond the border conflict, such as the dismantling of scam operations, he told This Week in Asia.

Him said Washington’s pledge appeared strategic given China’s growing visibility and capacity to mend Thai-Cambodian ties.”
