Him Raksmey, Executive Director of CCRS, recently shared his thoughts with Cambodianess regarding the ongoing war in the Middle East and its implications on Southeast Asia including Cambodia:
Him Raksmey, executive director of the Cambodian Center for Regional Studies, said a prolonged conflict in the Middle East could have far-reaching consequences for global peace and economic stability.
He added that Southeast Asia would not be immune to the ripple effects, which could affect political security, trade and investment, economic growth and social stability.
“It is important that Cambodia actively connects with fellow ASEAN countries and other regional partners to firmly secure and strengthen its oil and gas reserves while putting in place the necessary measures to manage potential pressures on energy prices,” Raksmey said.
At the same time, he said global crises can also serve as a catalyst for reform, pushing smaller states to strengthen domestic resilience and international engagement.
Raksmey suggested Cambodia continue improving its economic development policies, trade and investment environment, energy strategy, education system and technological capacity, while maintaining an active diplomatic role through multilateral cooperation and stronger regional partnerships.
Raksmey emphasized that Cambodia should continue adhering to international law and supporting multilateral institutions such as the United Nations and ASEAN
