CCRS is pleased to share a recent publication by Amb. Pou Sothirak, Distinguished Senior Advisor at CCRS, titled “Can ASEAN assume a credible role in building a stable Indo-Pacific?”, published recently in ISIS Malaysia Focus (p. 46-49).
In this timely and thought-provoking analysis, Ambassador Pou examines ASEAN’s evolving strategic environment amid intensifying major power competition and growing geopolitical uncertainty in the Indo-Pacific. The article assesses whether ASEAN can sustain its centrality, reinforce its unity, and exercise credible leadership in shaping an inclusive and stable regional order. It also reflects on the challenges facing ASEAN’s consensus-based approach and the importance of strategic coherence, resilience, and principled engagement in navigating regional fault lines.
As debates surrounding the Indo-Pacific architecture continue to evolve, this contribution offers valuable insights into ASEAN’s potential role and responsibilities in promoting peace, stability, and cooperation across the region.
