During the Asian Network’s Conference on Rethinking Harmony in Asia which was held on 27 September 2024 at the Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Amb. Pou Sothirak, Distinguished Senior Advisor to CCRS, argued that however inconceivable and complex it is, conflicts such as the decade long Cambodian crisis in the 1980s and early 1990s, can be resolved through a negotiated peace settlement when there were sincere willingness from internal, regional, and global belligerents which agreed to compromise for a long lasting political solution instead of the use of force through military interventions. Therefore, the military coup in Myanmar, the war in Ukraine and the crisis in the Middle East can learn from the Cambodia’s lesson culminating through the October 1991 Paris Peace Agreements.
