The Cambodian Center for Regional Studies (CCRS) will organize a public lecture on “South Korea’s Contemporary Foreign Policy” on Friday, 19 January 2024, from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM at AmCam Exchange (First Floor of the Exchange Square). The lecture will be presented by our Research Fellow, Mr. Ek Bunly with the keynote address by Mr. Na Sang-deok, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Cambodia.
In the past, the Korean Peninsula has always been a geopolitical chessboard by major powers. However, under the Yoon administration, the Republic of Korea (ROK) is charging with bold and proactive engagement worldwide. Despite that, the five influential states, such as the US, China, Japan, North Korea, and Russia, continued to play important roles in South Korea’s foreign policy and the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
With the recent tension from North Korea, this public lecture aims to discuss changes and continuity of Korea’s contemporary foreign policy. It also alludes to current trends and challenges that Korea faces and how the country sets forth strategies to address these intricacies. Moreover, the lecture will also postulate on implications of current Korea’s foreign policy on the five influential states, in Southeast Asia, and briefly discuss why Southeast Asia is important for South Korea and vice versa.
